Diamond Recognize

Meaning

Diamond Recognize expands the view of items by their relationships to the real world. It helps to solve the situation where different interested parties (stakeholders) look at one item from different perspectives because they act in different contexts. Perception of different contexts and perspectives is an important element in the design of services, and often a significant challenge. Diamond Recognize transfers an item from the mind to the real world as an item, and determines its specific representation in a given context. When stakeholders communicate with each other, they must be sure that in the context in which they are talking about the subject, everyone is thinking of the same category and representation of the subject. Understanding the context depends on how and why the items in it are connected. This is related to the level of certainty (CI-Connection) that a specific item belongs to a specific category - the categorization of a real item is never absolute. All these factors are incorporated as elements in the Recognize diamond, which is also called the Diamond of Cognitive elements. With its name, the diamond emphasizes its purpose - recognizing what has been seen. The central point of recognition is the item.

Elements

Item

No description

The items themselves, not just their mental representations. Item is the focal point of the Recognize diamond.

Context

No description

Context in which the item is identified.

Category

No description

Categorization of items, related to the context in which we are (connection through the "base" line). One item can belong to several categories. A single category can exist in multiple contexts, and a single context can exist in multiple categories.

CI-Connection

No description

Items belong to the category with some certainty. CI-Connection expresses the degree of certainty that the given item (link via the "ci-item" line) belongs to some category (link via the "ci-category" line). This degree of certainty is expressed on the interval <-1;1>, where -1 means that the item definitely does not belong to the category and 1 means that it definitely belongs there.

Manifestation

No description

The manifestation of the item in the given context (linking through the "manifestation-context" line). This representation is linked to the degree of certainty of the category (link via the "ci-manifestation" line). The item may appear differently in each context.

Rn-Lines

No description

Representation of the Mention-Use rule. When we talk or think about an item, we think about it using contexts, views, categories, CI-connections. Each element of the diamond can be used (at the edge of the diamond) or moved to the place of the item (thereby providing a recursive construction of the Recognize diamond, but with another item to be examined).
